2006-11-12 13:56:13

The Eighth China-Russia-Mongolia International Ice and Snow Festival will be unveiled on December 16 in the Chinese city of Manzhouli, in the northeast of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, reports Xinhua News Agency.

According to Yun Guangzhong, chief director of the event, this years festival will invite artists from the three countries to create art pieces out of ice and snow that reflect their cultural backgrounds. The popular and fun nature of this art is the focus of the event, in order to attract non-artistic visitors.

The opening ceremony for an Ice and Snow Theme Park, a bonfire party, and a one-day "ice and snow" tour across Manzhouli will also be launched during the festival.

Manzhouli is a small city lying on the China-Russian border, a major stop on the Trans-Siberian railroad that links Beijing and Moscow. The city is a good place to experience the Russian lifestyle without crossing the border, and the area around it is one of Chinas most untouched regions, with verdant grasslands, lush woodlands, and large numbers of wildlife.
