"Taipei County Cultural, Tourism Week," combined with a seminar on the tourism industry, opened Tuesday in Shanghai. It is the first time that a regional administration from Taiwan has launched a major tourism promotional event in Shanghai since the Taiwan Organization for Cross-Straits Tourism began operation in Taiwan on October 13. The online greeting from Zhou Xiwei drew much attention, as he expressed the Taipei County governments plans to enhance exchanges with the mainland and create a pleasant environment for mainland tourists to Taiwan.
Located in the north of Taiwan, Taipei County boasts a vast coastline, hot springs and famous tea. During the seminar, Li Meixia, a skilled tea maker from Taipei County, showed the way to make famous "Wenshanbaozhong Tea." And Shen Meilu, a handicraftswoman dressed in the traditional costume of the Taiya ethnic minority group in Taiwan, performed the art of bamboo-weaving.
The Culture Administration of Taipei County also promised that once Taiwan was opened up to mainland tourists, Taipei County would offer favorable travel packages to the first one thousand visitors to the county.
During the seminar, official tourism organizations from Shanghai and Taipei County signed an agreement on tourism cooperation. Under the agreement, the two sides will make joint efforts to establish an effective communication channel across the straits, so as to facilitate tourist flow between the two destinations and ensure a timely reaction in the case of any accidents that may occur among travelers.
