Dozens of flights and sections of highways were affected by a heavy fog that shrouded most of northeast Chinas Liaoning Province Wednesday morning.

The fog began to roll in around 4 a.m. Wednesday. Visibility in Shenyang, the provincial capital, and Anshan City was down to only50 meters, according to the provincial meteorological observatory.

Four provincial highways were shut down and sections of many others were closed due to the fog, according to the provincial highway administration sources.

More than 20 flights from Shenyang to other cities of China, the Republic of Korea and Japan were delayed or cancelled, according to the Sheyang Taoxian International Airport authority.

The fog disrupted the plans of people wanting to travel during the week-long National Day holiday that began on Oct. 1.

By Wednesday noon, the fog had lifted and travel by road and air had returned to normal.

Humid air and a lack of wind intensified the fog, meteorologists said.
