Kanasi Tearing Down Illegal Buildings

Kanasi Tearing Down Illegal Buildings

2006-09-27 15:18:03

Kanas Scenic Area in northwestern Chinas Xinjiang Uighur Autonomous Region began to tear down illegal housing in the scenic area as the construction of its new living and reception quarters comes to an end.

The layout of reception and living quarters was not well organized and instead was scattered in the earlier development periods of the scenic area, going against the great natural beauty of Kanasi. Starting from 2002, local authorities began to build new reception and living quarters some distance away from the core scenic zone for better protection.

As the construction of the new quarters comes to an end, workers have begun tearing down many illegal buildings scattered around the scenic area, including hotels, shops and restaurants. A total of 2,100 square meters of illegal buildings have been leveled and another 20,000 square meters will be taken down in the next two years.

With these illegal houses removed, the scenic area will offer tourists a natural, untouched Kanasi.
